2025-11-25

On November 22nd and 23rd local time, Premier Li Qiang attended the second and third phases of the 20th G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg. Li Qiang stated that the current multiple challenges, including climate change, energy, and food security, necessitate international solidarity and cooperation to overcome these difficulties.

Also in Africa, the sixth phase of the XCMG Africa Water Cellar Project, a "self-sustaining" global public welfare aid project jointly initiated by XCMG Group and the China Rural Development Foundation, was successfully completed and handed over. This phase constructed 36 water cellars, bringing XCMG's total number of household water cellars built in Ethiopia to 237, solving the drinking water problem for tens of thousands of residents.

“Ethiopia receives ample rainfall every year, but due to a lack of proper utilization, most of it is lost, making water use extremely difficult during the dry season,” said the head of agriculture in Minjar County. “These 36 newly built water cellars will greatly benefit 36 families. On behalf of our community, I would like to thank the China Rural Development Foundation, XCMG Group, and the Ethiopian Rainwater Harvesting Association for their strong support.”

A representative of the beneficiary farmers shared how the water cellars have changed their lives: "Each of us contributed 5,200 birr (about 294 yuan) and labor to the water cellars. With the water cellars, we can grow various crops such as coffee, papaya, and avocado. We must work hard to increase our family income. Thank you to XCMG Group and the China Rural Development Foundation. We look forward to continuing to support those in need!"

From the initial pilot exploration to the current large-scale promotion, the six phases of the water cellar project have outlined a clear and solid trajectory of fulfilling responsibilities—using a "self-sustaining" approach to help the local area expand from ensuring basic drinking water to supporting families in developing courtyard economies, thus injecting sustainable development power into the local area.

Along this interconnected road, every drop of rain reflects the brilliance of cooperation; every smiling face witnesses the warmth and strength that transcends mountains and seas.
